PART 3 — HER SISTER’S DARKEST SECRET

Madison could survive being betrayed by Everett.
She could survive the humiliation of walking away from her own wedding.
But seeing Kelsey standing beside the people who had tried to steal her inheritance nearly broke her.
“Tell me that photograph isn’t what it looks like.”
Kelsey stared at the floor.
“Madison, I wanted to tell you.”
“When?”
“Before the wedding.”
Madison shook her head.
“You were standing behind me while I promised to marry him.”
“I know.”
“You watched me put on that dress.”
Kelsey’s eyes filled with tears.
“I know.”
Madison stepped away.
Daniel interrupted.
“She wasn’t helping them.”
Everyone turned.
Kelsey closed her eyes.
“Daniel, don’t.”
But he continued.
“Your sister came to me six weeks ago. She believed someone was forging documents in your name.”
Madison looked between them.
“Six weeks?”
Kelsey nodded.
“I found a copy of your grandmother’s property deed in Everett’s car. He’d told me he was planning a surprise renovation for you. But the paperwork didn’t look right.”
She swallowed.
“So I photographed it.”
Daniel explained that Kelsey had been gathering evidence under the supervision of an attorney. The meeting in the photograph had been arranged so she could hear Joanne explain the proposed trust.
Madison struggled to speak.
“Why didn’t you tell me?”
“Because I didn’t have proof. And because Everett kept insisting you already knew.”
Kelsey reached into her handbag.
“I was going to stop the ceremony before the vows. But then Camille stood up.”
She unfolded a small note.
It contained three words.
GET HIM AWAY.
Madison stared at the handwriting.
“Who wrote this?”
“Camille.”
The room fell silent.
Everett looked at his ex-girlfriend.
“Camille, what have you done?”
Camille began shaking.
“I couldn’t let it happen.”
Joanne grabbed her arm.
“Be quiet.”
Camille pulled away.
For the first time, the carefully composed woman who had interrupted Madison’s wedding looked genuinely terrified.
“You told me it was only a temporary loan.”
Joanne’s expression hardened.
“You knew what you signed.”
“No. I knew what you showed me.”
Camille turned toward Madison.
“I didn’t come to your wedding to get Everett back.”
Madison said nothing.
“I came because Joanne told me that if you married Everett, the property transfer would be finalized on Monday.”
Everett stared at his mother.
“That wasn’t the agreement.”
Joanne’s eyes flashed.
“You will both stop talking.”
But Camille was crying again.
This time, she wasn’t performing.
“I thought if I interrupted the vows, you would postpone the ceremony. I thought Everett would finally tell you the truth.”
Madison felt something shift.
Camille had still humiliated her.
Everett had still chosen to hold another woman while Madison stood alone.
But there was a larger deception.
And someone had been controlling it from the beginning.
Daniel turned toward Joanne.
“Mrs. Cross, did you arrange the forged guarantee?”
Joanne smiled.
“You have nothing that proves I did.”
Kelsey reached into her bag again.
“Actually, we do.”
She removed a small digital recorder.
Joanne’s smile vanished.
Kelsey pressed play.
Joanne’s voice filled the room.
“Once Madison signs the marriage certificate, Everett can persuade her to transfer the farmhouse. She trusts him. She always has.”
Madison gripped the edge of the table.
Then another voice came through the speaker.
A man’s voice.
“Make sure she never finds out who really owns the debt.”
Madison looked up.
Because she recognized that voice.
It belonged to her father.
