Emergency responders found her in cardiac arrest and attempted to revive her, but she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nearly a month later, reports emerged that investigators were pursuing a possible connection between Panettiere and an alleged Los Angeles-based drug supplier.

However, authorities have not officially determined that fentanyl caused her death. The Greenville County Coroner’s Office has said the cause and manner of death remain pending while toxicology testing is completed.

INVESTIGATORS’ REPORTED THEORY
According to multiple law-enforcement sources cited by TMZ, investigators believe Panettiere may have taken a single oxycodone pill on the morning of Aug. 16 that was actually contaminated with fentanyl.

The reported theory is that she obtained the medication through a longtime Los Angeles drug dealer who allegedly supplied her with prescription drugs outside the legitimate medical system.

Sources told TMZ that Panettiere had taken other drugs obtained from the same source while traveling from Los Angeles to South Carolina the day before her death.
