John Rhys-Davies portrayed Gimli in The Lord of the Rings, despite being the tallest of the “Fellowship” actors. Standing at 6’1″, the production had to use forced perspective and scale doubles to make him look like a 4-foot dwarf. He pulled double duty in Middle-earth by voicing Treebeard the Ent.

He used his naturally deep, booming voice to bring the ancient shepherd of trees to life in The Two Towers. His character, Sallah, is widely considered one of the greatest sidekicks in cinematic history. After appearing in Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Last Crusade, he reprised the role one last time in The Dial of Destiny (2023).

He is a prolific voice actor with over 250 credits. Beyond film, he provided the voices for Cassim in Aladdin, the Brine King in Aquaman, and the iconic villain Man Ray in SpongeBob SquarePants.
