In a truly astonishing medical case from China, a man lived with a 12cm metal chopstick lodged in his throat for eight years before finally seeking treatment.

The incident began eight years ago when the man, surnamed Wang, accidentally swallowed the chopstick while eating and drinking. Although he felt pain immediately afterward, he could still breathe normally, so he chose not to seek serious medical help.

Doctors at the time recommended surgery to remove the object, which might have required an incision in the neck. Terrified of the procedure, the man refused treatment and decided to “live with it.”
