Family Mourns Three Generations Killed in South Modesto Stabbing

MODESTO, Calif. — A South Modesto family is grieving an unimaginable loss after a deadly stabbing on Thursday morning claimed the lives of three generations: a grandmother, her daughter, and her two-week-old grandson.
The victims have been identified as:
- Silvia Nuñez Villalobos, 54
- Fabiola Gonzalez Nuñez, 23
- Baby Mateo Gonzalez, only 2 weeks old

According to Modesto Police, officers responded to a reported disturbance around 9:25 a.m. Thursday in the 1600 block of Monterey Avenue, near Orville Wright Elementary School.
Upon arrival, officers found Fabiola Gonzalez Nuñez suffering from multiple stab wounds outside a residence. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Inside the home, they discovered Silvia Nuñez Villalobos and infant Mateo Gonzalez, both with apparent stab wounds. They were also pronounced deceased.
A surviving child, believed to be at least 3 years old, was found inside the home and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
The incident prompted a lockdown at Orville Wright Elementary School. Students and staff were later safely relocated to La Loma Junior High School while officers searched the area.
Police arrested Joaquin Escoto, 28, near the scene. He is suspected in the triple homicide.

Maria Nunez, sister of Silvia and aunt of Fabiola, spoke about the devastating loss:
“We are going through a huge tragedy, pain. My sister Silvia Nuñez Villalobos and my niece Fabiola Gonzalez Nuñez and her baby Mateo, two weeks old, unfortunately were victims.”
The family has set up a GoFundMe to help cover funeral expenses for the three victims.
This heartbreaking incident has deeply affected the local community, with many residents expressing shock and sorrow over the loss of such young lives.
