United Airlines Flight Diverts Back to Newark After Teenager’s Fitbit Named “Bomb” Sparks Security Scare

A United Airlines flight headed to Spain was forced to turn around mid-flight on Saturday and return to Newark Liberty International Airport after a Bluetooth device named “bomb” triggered a security alert.
Flight UA236, which had departed from Newark, diverted back to its origin following the discovery of the suspicious Bluetooth device name on passengers’ available devices list.
According to officials and sources, the device belonged to a teenager who had jokingly named his Fitbit “bomb.” The name appeared on the aircraft’s Bluetooth network, prompting immediate concern and the decision to divert the flight for safety.
No explosive devices were found on board, and authorities determined there was no actual threat. The aircraft landed safely back at Newark.
The incident caused significant delays and inconvenience for passengers on the transatlantic flight. United Airlines has not yet issued an official statement regarding the matter.
