Polish Fugitive Wanted for $30 Million Fraud Arrested at U.S. Army Boot Camp

FORT LEONARD WOOD, Mo. — A Polish fugitive wanted for massive fraud was arrested while training with the U.S. Army, officials said.
Marcin Pióro, 45, the former CEO of a Polish financial services company, was taken into custody on May 19 during basic combat training at Fort Leonard Wood. He had enlisted in the Illinois National Guard in an apparent attempt to gain U.S. citizenship through military service.
Pióro is wanted by Polish authorities and Interpol on charges of fraud and money laundering involving more than $30 million and over 5,000 victims. A red notice had been issued for his arrest.
U.S. Marshals, working with the Army, apprehended him during a training exercise. He faces extradition to Poland.
