BREAKING: The US Senate has just REJECTED the SAVE America Act as part of budget reconciliation, 48-50 — would’ve required voter ID and proof of citizenship nationwide

The US Senate has just voted down an effort to include the SAVE America Act in budget reconciliation, falling short at 48-50. The legislation would have mandated voter ID and documentary proof of U.S. citizenship for voter registration in federal elections nationwide.
Four Republican senators joined all Democrats in voting against the measure: Thom Tillis (R-NC), Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Susan Collins (R-ME).
The amendment, aimed at strengthening election integrity, needed broader support to advance through the reconciliation process. Supporters argue it would help prevent non-citizen voting and restore confidence in elections, while opponents raised concerns about potential barriers for eligible voters.
This marks another setback for the bill, which has passed the House multiple times but continues to face hurdles in the Senate.
