Court Orders Teen Accused of Killing Stepsister on Carnival Cruise Ship into Custody Pending Trial

MIAMI — In a significant development, a federal judge has ordered 17-year-old Timothy Hudson to be held in custody until his trial for the alleged rape and murder of his 18-year-old stepsister, Anna Kepner, aboard a Carnival Cruise ship last year.
Hudson, charged as an adult with first-degree murder and aggravated sexual abuse, had previously been allowed to remain with family under electronic monitoring after his initial arrest. However, following a recent hearing, the court revoked his pretrial release, citing him as a danger to the community.
The tragic incident occurred on November 6-7, 2025, aboard the Carnival Horizon while the ship was in international waters en route to Miami. Kepner’s body was discovered by a housekeeper concealed under a bed in the cabin she was sharing with Hudson and another family member. The medical examiner ruled her death as mechanical asphyxiation.
Prosecutors have highlighted a 36-minute security video as key evidence in the case, along with DNA, Apple Watch data showing signs of a struggle, and phone records. The defense continues to maintain Hudson’s innocence.
The ruling has brought a measure of relief to Kepner’s family, who expressed that they can now feel safer knowing the accused is in custody while awaiting trial, currently scheduled for later this year.
This high-profile case has drawn intense public attention due to the family relationship involved and the cruise ship setting. Hudson has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Our thoughts remain with Anna Kepner’s family and loved ones as they continue to seek justice for this heartbreaking loss. 💔
The case remains ongoing.
