INDIANA — A mother was fatally shot while trying to protect her son during a robbery that began as a Facebook Marketplace transaction, authorities said.

The tragic incident occurred when the woman met with a buyer who turned the encounter into an armed robbery. As the suspect allegedly attempted to rob them, the mother stepped in to shield her son and was killed in the process.

An 18-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the killing. Police have not yet released his name pending further investigation.
