Mamdani-Endorsed Candidate Aber Kwas Wins NY Democratic State Senate Primary, Offers Controversial Explanation of 9/11

Aber Kwas, a candidate endorsed by Democratic Socialist Zohran Mamdani, has won the New York Democratic State Senate primary.
In a resurfaced clip, Kwas offered a highly controversial explanation of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, linking them to broader themes of capitalism, racism, white supremacy, and Islamophobia.
In her remarks, she stated:
“Um and so like and finding that like you know the system of capitalism and racism and white supremacy etcetera have all and Islamophobia have all been used you know to colonize lands right to take resources from other people and so this is like a long trajectory and we’re just seeing the manifestations of that continuation right with 9/11…”
The comments have drawn sharp criticism from many who view them as an inappropriate and inaccurate framing of the 9/11 attacks, which were carried out by al-Qaeda terrorists.
Supporters of Kwas may see her remarks as part of a broader critique of systemic issues, while opponents argue they minimize the responsibility of the terrorists and disrespect the victims of the attacks.
The primary victory and the resurfaced comments are likely to fuel further debate as Kwas moves forward in her political career.
