CARTER COUNTY, Kentucky — The body of 19-year-old Marly Kinney was recovered four days after she went missing during an afternoon boat outing on Grayson Lake.

Kinney, from Ashland, Kentucky, disappeared on June 24, 2026, while with a group of at least 10 others on a rented pontoon boat. She was last seen around 4 p.m. when she reportedly jumped off the boat to use the bathroom while wearing a bikini, leaving her phone and other belongings behind.

The group had difficulty identifying the exact location on the lake where she had gotten off, which complicated and delayed search efforts.

The boat’s 23-year-old operator, Cameron Conley, reported her missing. He was later arrested for boating under the influence. His blood-alcohol level reportedly measured 0.137 — nearly twice Kentucky’s legal limit of 0.08 — with a second reading of 0.135 about 20 minutes later.

A large-scale search operation involving the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife, Kentucky State Police, drones, sonar, helicopters, K-9 teams, divers, and dozens of volunteers continued until Kinney’s body was found around 3:45 p.m. on June 28.

The cause of death has not yet been officially determined and will be established by the State Medical Examiner’s Office.

This tragic incident has left family, friends, and the local community in shock. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding her disappearance and death are ongoing.
