A verbal argument over a parking space at a North Lauderdale Walmart escalated into tragedy on June 30 when 62-year-old Bart Diguglielmo was fatally shot in the store’s parking lot. The incident, captured on cellphone and dashcam video, has drawn significant attention as authorities review the shooter’s claim of self-defense.

According to the Broward Sheriff’s Office, Diguglielmo and an unidentified woman became involved in a heated dispute over a parking spot around 12:30 p.m. at the Walmart Supercenter in the 7900 block of West McNab Road. Video footage shows the woman exiting her vehicle with a handgun in one hand and a phone in the other as Diguglielmo approaches. She is heard warning him to walk away multiple times before firing a single shot.

Diguglielmo, who collapsed immediately after the gunshot, was transported to Broward Health Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The woman remained at the scene, cooperated fully with investigators, and told detectives she acted in self-defense as he continued advancing toward her despite her warnings.

Diguglielmo, a retired U.S. Army veteran and former emergency room trauma nurse who had moved to Florida from New Jersey, was remembered by family as a “good man.” The case has been forwarded to the Broward County State Attorney’s Office for review to determine whether charges will be filed.

911 calls released by authorities captured the chaos, with witnesses urgently requesting help and noting the shooter still had the gun. No charges have been announced as the investigation continues.

The incident highlights the dangers of escalating minor disputes, with prosecutors weighing the self-defense claim against the circumstances shown in video evidence.
