Shocking Evidence in Trial of Mother and Boyfriend Accused in Death of 2-Year-Old Isabelle Welsh, Who Had 21 Fractures

Thornaby, Teesside — A Teesside Crown Court trial has revealed harrowing details about the death of 2-year-old Isabelle Welsh, who suffered fractures to 21 bones and other injuries consistent with repeated abuse before collapsing at her home with a “massive head injury.” Prosecutors described it as the endpoint of a “campaign of violence” against the toddler.
Isabelle was found unresponsive at the foot of the stairs in September 2025. Paramedics could not save her. A post-mortem also found extensive bruising from forceful gripping and evidence of sexual assault, according to court testimony.
Her mother, Alexandra Walker, 25, and Walker’s boyfriend, Harrison Simpson, 22, both deny charges of murder, causing or allowing the death of a child, sexual assault, and child cruelty. The trial has heard claims that Walker delayed calling 999, allegedly smoking a cigarette and searching symptoms online as her daughter deteriorated.
Jurors face the difficult task of determining how such severe, multi-period injuries allegedly went unaddressed for so long. The case has prompted intense public discussion about child safeguarding failures and the need for better intervention when warning signs appear.
Tributes continue for Isabelle, with floral memorials and messages highlighting her innocence. The trial is ongoing, with both defendants presumed innocent until proven guilty.
