Two-and-a-half-year-old Molly Jo Miller of Alabaster, Alabama, is set to make a special appearance on the giant video screens in New York City’s Times Square on September 12.

Molly Jo was born at 29 weeks weighing just 2 pounds, 1 ounce and was diagnosed with Down syndrome. She also had a hole in her heart. Doctors at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) repaired the heart defect before transferring her to Children’s of Alabama, where she spent seven months receiving specialized care.

Her parents, Bryson and Gabrielle Miller, have expressed deep gratitude for the medical teams that supported their daughter. Gabrielle, a NICU nurse at Children’s of Alabama, noted the reassurance of knowing her colleagues and friends were caring for Molly Jo even though she could not treat her own child.

Today Molly Jo is thriving. While she is currently non-verbal and not yet walking, her parents say she is making steady progress. “She’s one of our biggest blessings,” Gabrielle shared.

Molly Jo’s photo was selected by the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS) from thousands of submissions for its annual Times Square video presentation. Only a few hundred children and individuals were chosen for the honor. The Miller family plans to travel to New York City to see her image displayed on the big screens.

The NDSS Times Square event is part of broader efforts to promote visibility, inclusion, and acceptance for people with Down syndrome. For the Millers, watching their daughter celebrated in one of the world’s most iconic public spaces represents both pride in her journey and appreciation for the care that helped her reach this milestone.
