MAYSEN’S SURGERY UPDATE
After a very long and emotional day, Maysen is officially DONE with surgery!
She went into surgery around 7:30 this morning for a major and complicated procedure because her neuroblastoma tumor was wrapped around major blood vessels and involved her kidneys.
The surgical team first successfully placed stents in both kidneys. They then began the lengthy process of removing the tumor while carefully working around major blood vessels, including the aorta, and around both kidneys.
Throughout the day, Maysen’s family received updates that she was doing well and that her vital signs remained stable.
She did need a blood transfusion during surgery, which her family says the medical team had anticipated because of the size and complexity of the operation.
Unfortunately, surgeons were unable to safely preserve Maysen’s right kidney and had to remove it. While this was difficult news for her family, their priority was keeping Maysen safe while removing as much of the tumor as possible.
And they achieved something incredible:
95% OF HER TUMOR WAS REMOVED!
After the neuroblastoma surgery was completed, doctors also successfully placed her G-tube, which will help provide the nutrition and calories she needs throughout the rest of her treatment.
One of the most encouraging updates is that Maysen does not need to go to the PICU. She is going directly to the surgical floor to begin recovering.
Today brought some major victories:
95% of her tumor was removed
Her right kidney had to be removed
Her G-tube was successfully placed
She remained stable during surgery
She is doing well after the procedure
No PICU — straight to the surgical floor
From a tumor measuring 14.5 cm at diagnosis, through months of chemotherapy, procedures, hospital stays, and transfusions, Maysen has already endured so much.
There is still more treatment ahead and more healing to do, but today was a huge milestone in Maysen’s fight against neuroblastoma.
Her family is incredibly grateful to everyone who prayed for her, checked in, sent messages, and supported them through the long hours.
And a special thank-you goes to the surgical, anesthesia, oncology, and nursing teams who cared for Maysen.
Now it’s time for this sweet girl to rest, heal, and recover.
