A dramatic social-media graphic circulating about 18-year-old Nolan Wells claims that his friend Warren Hudson was arrested for murder. However, that claim is false: available reporting confirms that no one has been arrested in connection with Nolan’s death, and Hudson has not been publicly identified by investigators as a suspect.

But while the arrest claim is unsubstantiated, the investigation itself continues to generate important questions — particularly surrounding Nolan’s cellphone, the timeline on Horn Island, witness accounts and the unresolved cause of death.

One of the most closely watched developments is the forensic examination of Nolan’s cellphone.

The device reportedly returned to the mainland without Nolan after the July 4 trip. His family has raised concerns about deleted messages and other missing digital material, arguing that the phone could help establish what happened during Nolan’s final hours.

As of the latest reporting, however, the phone still had not been forensically examined because of a dispute over how the examination should be conducted. The family has proposed a joint examination involving outside experts, while prosecutors have sought possession of the device for law-enforcement examination.
