A FAMILY’S HEARTBREAK: Parents Sue After Six-Year-Old Lucy Morgan Dies in Freak Badminton Accident
A New Jersey family is seeking answers more than two years after the devastating death of their six-year-old daughter, Lucy Morgan.

Lucy was on a family vacation in Maine in June 2024 when a badminton racket being used by her older brother suddenly broke apart.

According to the family’s newly filed lawsuit, the metal shaft separated from the handle and struck Lucy in the head, causing a catastrophic injury. (Maine Public)

Lucy was rushed to hospital, but despite emergency treatment, she died four days later.

What began as an ordinary family vacation became a tragedy her parents and siblings will carry for the rest of their lives.

Now, the Morgan family has filed a wrongful-death lawsuit against Franklin Sports, the manufacturer of the racket.

The lawsuit alleges that the racket was defectively designed and manufactured and that the connection between the handle and metal shaft was not adequately secured. (WBAL Baltimore News)

The family also alleges that the product lacked a secondary safety measure that could have prevented the metal shaft from becoming a dangerous projectile.

Another central claim is that consumers were not adequately warned about the possibility of the racket separating during ordinary use.

These are allegations made in a civil lawsuit and have not been proven in court.

Franklin Sports has expressed sympathy to Lucy’s family and said it is reviewing the circumstances while declining to comment on the specific allegations because litigation is pending. (The Independent)

For Lucy’s parents, however, this lawsuit is about far more than compensation.

They want answers about how such a heartbreaking accident could have happened.

And they hope that bringing the case forward might help prevent another family from experiencing the same unimaginable loss.

Lucy was only six years old.

She should have gone home from that vacation with memories of laughter, family, and summer days.

Instead, her family went home without her.

No legal action can change that.

But her parents hope that Lucy’s story can serve as a reminder that even ordinary products deserve careful attention when safety is at stake.

Above all, they want their little girl to be remembered not for the terrible accident that took her life, but for the life she had and the love she left behind.
