Abandoned as a Newborn Without Legs, Kanya Sesser Built a Life With No Limits

She was left on the steps of a Buddhist temple only days after birth because she had been born without legs. That beginning did not decide her future.

Kanya Sesser spent her early years in a local hospital. At age five she was adopted by an American family and raised in Oregon. From childhood she showed fierce independence, moving on her hands under a motto that would follow her for life: “No legs, no limits.”

She did not want a traditional wheelchair to define her days. Skateboarding became her way of getting around. Over time she treated the board as an extension of her body.

That same drive carried her onto a much larger stage. She set a Guinness World Record for the longest handstand on a moving skateboard. She walked New York Fashion Week and appeared in campaigns for major brands, including Adidas. In Hollywood she worked as an actress and stunt performer, with credits that include The Walking Dead and Hawaii Five-0.

Sesser now lives in Los Angeles. She uses her platform in sport and entertainment to speak around the world about inclusion and to argue that many of the highest barriers exist only in the mind.
