SEVEN CHILDREN, ONE TEENAGER’S COURAGE — AND A VIDEO THAT BROUGHT THE CASE TO LIGHT

A 15-year-old girl may have played a crucial role in bringing an alleged child-abuse case in Dayton, Ohio, to the attention of authorities.

On April 18, 2026, Dayton police responded to a welfare-check request after the teenager sent her father videos that appeared to show abuse inside the home where she was living. The matter was referred to Montgomery County Children’s Services.

The following day, police received another report involving a video posted on social media. Investigators returned to the residence on Wroe Avenue, where seven children between the ages of 7 and 15 were removed from the home.

According to prosecutors and local reports, the children showed signs of abuse. Five were Heather Pippen’s children, while the other two were her niece and nephew. Authorities also removed animals from the property.

The investigation led to charges against 35-year-old Heather Pippen and her boyfriend, 40-year-old Stephanas Golden.

On September 9, Pippen pleaded guilty to two counts of endangering children, one count of strangulation, and one count of obstructing official business. She is scheduled to be sentenced on September 25.

Golden, meanwhile, entered a plea of not guilty by reason of insanity. Judge Gerald Parker ordered a mental evaluation, with findings expected to be addressed in court on November 5.

Authorities have described the alleged treatment of the children as extremely serious. Prosecutor Mat Heck Jr. characterized the case as among the most severe abuse cases he had encountered.

The case also highlights the importance of speaking up when a child may be in danger. In this investigation, the teenager’s decision to document what she believed was happening and share it with her father helped bring the situation to authorities’ attention.

Important: Pippen pleaded guilty; she was not found guilty by a jury. Golden’s case remains ongoing, and the allegations against him have not been resolved in court.
