The case of Wade Steven Wilson, a Florida man sentenced to death for two 2019 murders, has once again attracted widespread public attention in 2026.

Wilson was convicted in 2024 in connection with the deaths of Kristine Melton, 35, and Diane Ruiz, 43, in Lee County, Florida. Prosecutors presented evidence linking Wilson to both killings, including testimony, forensic evidence and statements attributed to him during the investigation.

The case began in October 2019, when Melton disappeared after meeting Wilson in Fort Myers. Investigators later connected Wilson to her death and the disappearance of her vehicle.

Authorities subsequently linked him to the death of Ruiz, who was on her way to work. The investigation eventually led police to Wilson, who was arrested after information was provided by someone close to him.

In June 2024, a jury found Wilson guilty of two counts of first-degree premeditated murder. The jury recommended the death penalty in both cases, and a judge later imposed two death sentences.
