Born with a Broken Heart: The Impossible Fight of a Baby Who Refused to Give Up

When Noor entered the world in September 2023, her family expected the ordinary joys that come with welcoming a newborn baby home — sleepless nights, tiny milestones, and the overwhelming love only parents understand.

Instead, they were thrown into a terrifying medical battle that would test every ounce of their strength.

From the very beginning, Noor’s life became a fight for survival.

Diagnosed with two rare and complex congenital heart defects — Tetralogy of Fallot (TOF) and Double Outlet Right Ventricle (DORV) — the tiny baby girl faced challenges no child should ever endure. Yet despite surgeries, breathing complications, hospital stays, and life-threatening setbacks, Noor continued to do something extraordinary:

She kept fighting.

And through it all, her smile never disappeared.

A Devastating Diagnosis Changed Everything

Shortly after Noor’s birth, doctors realized something was dangerously wrong.

Her oxygen saturation levels fluctuated unpredictably, signaling that her heart was struggling to pump blood properly throughout her tiny body. Further testing confirmed the devastating diagnosis: Tetralogy of Fallot and Double Outlet Right Ventricle, two severe congenital heart defects that would require immediate medical intervention.

For her parents, the news was heartbreaking.

What should have been the happiest season of their lives suddenly became filled with fear, uncertainty, and conversations about open-heart surgery, oxygen levels, and survival odds.

But even in those frightening first days, Noor showed signs of the fighter she would become.

Open-Heart Surgery at Just Two Weeks Old

At only two weeks old, Noor underwent her first open-heart surgery.

Doctors performed a Blalock-Taussig Shunt (BTT) procedure, designed to improve blood flow to her lungs and help stabilize her oxygen levels. The operation was delicate and high-risk, especially for such a tiny infant.

Her family waited anxiously as surgeons fought to save her life.

Thankfully, Noor pulled through.

By mid-October 2023, she was finally able to go home with her parents and her three older siblings — a milestone that felt miraculous after weeks of fear and uncertainty.

But the relief would not last long.

The Ongoing Struggles No One Could See

Although Noor survived surgery, her medical battle was far from over.

Her pulmonary arteries remained dangerously narrow, causing repeated respiratory infections and making breathing increasingly difficult. Feeding also became a constant challenge. Simple tasks most babies perform naturally required enormous effort from Noor.

Her family quickly learned that life with congenital heart disease meant living in a constant cycle of hope and fear.

Hospital admissions became routine.
Sleepless nights became normal.
Every cold or respiratory illness carried serious risks.

Yet despite everything happening inside her tiny body, Noor continued smiling.

Her laughter became a source of strength not only for her family, but for the nurses and doctors caring for her as well.

Noor’s Condition Suddenly Became Critical

As spring approached in 2024, Noor’s health began deteriorating rapidly.

The shunt that had once helped keep her alive started failing. Her oxygen levels dropped even lower, and breathing became dangerously difficult.

Doctors moved quickly to stabilize her condition.

She was placed on a ventilator while simultaneously battling another respiratory virus — a terrifying combination for a child already struggling with severe heart complications.

For her parents, the fear became overwhelming.

Watching their daughter connected to machines, struggling for breath, felt unbearable. Yet even during the darkest moments, Noor continued showing extraordinary resilience.

A Life-Threatening Surgery and Six Days on ECMO

By the end of April 2024, Noor urgently needed another major heart surgery.

Doctors attempted a complex repair involving pulmonary conduit placement and a double homograft procedure. But during surgery, complications emerged.

Her body, already weakened by illness and stress, could not tolerate the strain.

Her heartbeat weakened dramatically, forcing surgeons to stop the procedure before completion. In a desperate effort to save her life, the medical team placed Noor on ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation), a life-support system that temporarily takes over the function of the heart and lungs.

For six agonizing days, Noor fought for survival on ECMO.

Her family lived moment to moment, consumed by fear and uncertainty as they waited beside her hospital bed.

But even then, something remarkable happened.

Despite being sedated and critically ill, Noor would occasionally wake up and smile at her parents and nurses.

That smile became a symbol of hope inside the hospital room.

A reminder that she was still fighting.

Noor’s Strength Amazed Everyone Around Her

After six terrifying days on ECMO, doctors performed two arterioplasties to complete the final stage of Noor’s heart repair.

The surgery was risky.
The odds were uncertain.

But once again, Noor survived.

Doctors, nurses, and specialists at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta were amazed by her resilience. Though physically tiny, Noor possessed an extraordinary determination that carried her through some of the most dangerous moments of her young life.

Her recovery has been slow and ongoing, but every day brings new progress.

And every small milestone feels monumental to the people who love her.

The Meaning Behind Noor’s Name Feels More Powerful Than Ever

Noor’s name means “divine light” in Arabic.

For her family, the meaning could not feel more perfect.

Through surgeries, ventilators, and life-threatening complications, Noor has continued bringing light into every room she enters. Her smile, laughter, and quiet courage have inspired not only her family, but countless people following her journey.

Even during the darkest moments, she reminded everyone around her that hope still existed.

A Family Fighting Beside Her Every Step of the Way

Behind every medically fragile child is a family carrying invisible emotional weight.

Noor’s parents have spent countless nights in hospital rooms, holding onto hope while navigating fear no parent should ever experience. They have leaned on doctors, nurses, loved ones, and the support of complete strangers who continue praying for Noor’s recovery.

That support has become part of her survival story.

Every encouraging message.
Every prayer.
Every act of kindness.

Together, those moments helped carry the family through the hardest days of their lives.

Noor’s Journey Continues to Inspire Thousands

Today, Noor remains under specialized care as she continues recovering and growing stronger.

Her journey is not over.
There are still challenges ahead.

But one thing has become undeniably clear:

Noor is a warrior.

Her story is a powerful reminder of the strength children can possess even in the face of unimaginable adversity. It also shines a light on the reality many families face when navigating congenital heart disease, pediatric surgeries, and long-term hospital care.

Most of all, Noor’s journey proves that resilience can exist even inside the smallest hearts.

A Little Girl Who Refused to Stop Fighting

Noor has already endured more than most people experience in a lifetime.

Yet she continues moving forward with courage, light, and a smile capable of changing the atmosphere of an entire hospital room.

Her family believes the future ahead of her is bright.

And after everything Noor has already overcome, it is impossible not to believe it too.

Because sometimes miracles are not loud.

Sometimes they are quiet little girls with broken hearts who simply refuse to give up.
