Chesterfield, Virginia — Two police officers and a K-9 were injured Sunday afternoon during a shootout with a barricaded suspect in a Chesterfield neighborhood, authorities said.

The incident unfolded when officers responded to a home and the suspect barricaded himself inside, leading to a prolonged exchange of gunfire. Police deployed a SWAT team, an armored vehicle, and multiple units to the scene.

Emergency radio traffic described the chaos, with a dispatcher calling for an ambulance for a “red patient” amid active gunfire and reports of officers being hit. A neighbor described hearing approximately 100 rounds fired over about 30 minutes.

One injured officer was seen leaving the area with blood on his arm before collapsing roughly 100 yards from the house, where EMTs immediately aided him.

The suspect was also injured during the confrontation and taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Authorities issued a shelter-in-place order for residents within a one-mile radius, which was lifted approximately one hour later. Police confirmed there is no ongoing threat to the community.

The investigation remains active as officials work to determine the circumstances that led to the shooting.
