Truck-Driving Preacher Helps Thwart Alleged Kidnapping on South Carolina Highway, Dramatic Dashcam Video Captures Rescue

AIKEN COUNTY, S.C. — A quick-thinking truck driver and pastor helped derail an alleged kidnapping attempt last Friday when he spotted a handcuffed woman fleeing from her captor on a South Carolina highway and assisted in her rescue.

Anthony J. Moore, 53, a truck driver and pastor of Amazing Grace Ministries in Denmark, South Carolina, was traveling through Aiken County — about 20 miles from the Georgia border — when the dramatic scene unfolded in front of his rig.

Dashcam footage shows a woman with her hands cuffed behind her back running directly into the path of Moore’s truck. A silver Cadillac, driven by the suspect, swerved aggressively in an apparent attempt to intercept her. Moore and another motorist intervened, helping to protect the woman until authorities arrived.

The woman told Moore, “Please help me. He’s trying to kidnap me,” according to reports. She had reportedly escaped from the suspect’s vehicle by climbing over the seat while he was distracted.

Authorities arrested Jonathan Willard, 39, of New Ellenton, charging him with kidnapping and impersonating a law enforcement officer. He remains in custody.

Moore downplayed his role, telling reporters he was not a hero but merely a “divine tool” guided by “delayed divine timing” that placed him at the right spot at the right moment.

The incident highlights the life-saving potential of dashcams and the willingness of everyday citizens — especially those on the road — to step in during emergencies. Moore’s actions are being praised widely as the investigation continues.

No further details about the victim have been released.
