CAPITAL MURDER CHARGE FILED AFTER 3-MONTH-OLD BABY FOUND UNRESPONSIVE IN BEEVILLE HOME
Authorities in Beeville, Texas, are investigating a disturbing infant death case that has resulted in a capital murder charge against the child’s father.
Officers responded on June 11, 2026, to a residence in the 900 block of Wilhelm Street after receiving a 911 call reporting that a 3-month-old girl was not breathing.
Emergency responders initiated CPR at the scene before transporting the infant to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead.
According to court documents, medical staff identified severe injuries consistent with inflicted trauma, including bruising to the face and head, broken blood vessels in the eyes, human bite marks, and additional injuries noted in sensitive areas.
The child’s father, 20-year-old John Jacob Landreth, told investigators he did not know how the injuries occurred, according to an arrest affidavit.
Authorities said the infant’s mother reported she had last fed and changed the baby around 2 a.m. before going to sleep.
Court documents state that Landreth told investigators he placed the baby in her crib between approximately 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Surveillance footage reportedly showed the infant alive in her crib at around 4:16 a.m.
Investigators determined that Landreth was the last known adult to be awake with the child before she was found unresponsive the following morning.
The baby’s mother discovered the infant not breathing around 9 a.m., prompting the emergency call to authorities.
Officials also noted that both parents stated no other individuals had access to the child during the overnight hours, and that the bedroom was secured.
The investigation is ongoing as forensic experts continue to review medical findings, digital evidence, and timelines provided by those involved.
Authorities have not released further details regarding motive, but the case has been formally charged as capital murder.
For investigators and medical personnel, the case presents a deeply troubling set of injuries and unanswered questions.
As the legal process moves forward, the focus remains on determining exactly what occurred during the final hours of the infant’s life.
