ESPN’s Matt Miller Lost ‘Significant Amount of Blood’ Before Amputation as Grisly Crash Details Revealed

Joplin, Missouri — ESPN NFL draft analyst Matt Miller suffered devastating injuries, including the loss of a significant amount of blood, in a horrific car crash last week that resulted in the emergency amputation of his left arm, according to newly revealed details.
The accident occurred on June 17 in Jasper County, Missouri, when Miller’s 2023 Ford Bronco crossed the center line of a highway and collided with a semi-truck. Miller was ejected from the vehicle in the violent impact.
A GoFundMe page shared by Miller on his X account provides harrowing new details of the crash. He sustained a compound fracture of his left femur, a shattered left kneecap, multiple broken ribs, and lost a significant amount of blood. Doctors performed an emergency amputation of his left arm to save his life. Remarkably, his head, neck, and spine were spared serious injury.
Miller remains in the ICU at Mercy Hospital after being airlifted from the scene. He has undergone surgery on his left leg and a procedure on his shoulder to evaluate options for a future prosthetic.
Positive spirit amid recovery
Despite the life-altering injuries, Miller’s determination remains strong. The GoFundMe highlights his positive outlook, noting that he is already joking about becoming “the best one-armed bartender ever.”
“I’m incredibly fortunate to be writing this,” Miller posted on X earlier this week. “While I have a long road ahead, I’m focused on my recovery and taking things one day at a time.” He added that he looks forward to returning to ESPN to continue talking football.
Miller joined ESPN in 2021 after 11 years at Bleacher Report. He is a prominent NFL draft analyst who frequently appears on “SportsCenter,” “NFL Live,” “Get Up,” and the network’s draft coverage. He is the father of two children, Hayley and Emmitt.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured in the crash. Miller’s recovery is expected to be long and challenging, but supporters are rallying behind the popular analyst through the GoFundMe campaign.
Images from the scene show the mangled remains of Miller’s Bronco on a flatbed tow truck, underscoring the severity of the collision.
