His name was Khalil Ali Echoles.
According to investigators, just after midnight on July 9, Khalil’s father allegedly kicked in the front door of his ex-girlfriend’s apartment in Pineville, North Carolina.
Police say he walked into the children’s bedroom, closed the door, and attacked his sleeping son.
As the child’s mother was on the phone with 911 reporting the break-in, she reportedly realized he wasn’t just standing over the bed—he was hurting her baby.
When officers arrived, they found 5-year-old Khalil suffering from multiple st*b wounds. He was at on his face, head and arms
They rushed him to the hospital in a patrol car, but he could not be saved.
Authorities say the suspect fled the apartment and was arrested a short time later at a nearby Taco Bell. He has been charged with first-degree murder and assault on a female and is being held without bond.
Reports also indicate he had a history of domestic violence, including a prior conviction and pending assault cases, and was out on bond at the time of Khalil’s death.
