Will Roberts, a 15-year-old from Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, who gained national attention after publicly pleading for access to an experimental cancer treatment, has passed away.

His family shared the news on Facebook, stating that Will died shortly after midnight at a hospital in San Diego, where he had been receiving care. His mother, Brittney Roberts, explained that the stage four bone cancer had progressed into his brain, affecting his mental capacity. She and her husband Jason made the difficult decision to end his suffering.

“Will is finally ringing his forever cancer free bell as he entered the gates of Heaven,” Brittney wrote. She noted that she and her husband were by his side as he took his last breath, and that he passed away on her birthday.

A National Plea for Help
Will first drew widespread attention in April 2026 when he used his mother’s Facebook account to post a heartfelt video asking for help obtaining a specific cancer drug. The video went viral, prompting outreach from lawmakers and Dr. Oz, who connected the family with a treatment facility in Santa Monica, California. There, Will began receiving the experimental drug known as Delta Rex G.

Despite the efforts and the support of thousands who followed his journey, the disease continued to advance.

Family’s Tribute
In her emotional post, Brittney Roberts expressed deep gratitude to the community that supported them. “You have prayed when we didn’t have the strength. You celebrated every victory with us and cried through every setback. You loved Will like family, and we will spend the rest of our lives grateful for every single one of you.”

She described the loss as indescribable: “There isn’t a mother alive who could ever find the right words to write a post like this… there are no words big enough for a loss like this.”

Brittney also reflected on the bittersweet timing of his passing: “What a beautiful gift that God gave me today on my birthday….a celebration that there is no more cancer and Will entered into the kingdom of Heaven!!!! What better gift could I have received than to know my baby boy is sitting with Jesus and is cancer free.”

She concluded with a personal message: “Until I see you again, Will…I love you more than words will ever be able to say. It has been the greatest honor of my life to be your mama.”

Community and Official Response
Alabama Governor Kay Ivey posted about Will’s death, noting that his courage inspired many. U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville also spoke about the loss, saying the 15-year-old will be deeply missed.
