Lindsay Clancy, a Duxbury mother accused of killing her three young children, turned 36 on Tuesday, Aug. 11, as her murder trial continued.

Clancy is accused of killing 5-year-old Cora, 3-year-old Dawson, and 8-month-old Callan, in January 2023. Prosecutors allege Clancy strangled them with exercise bands in the basement of their home while her husband, Patrick Clancy, was out running errands. She was 32 years old at the time.

Clancy’s defense attorney, Kevin Reddington, has argued that she was overmedicated and lacked criminal responsibility due to mental illness, including postpartum depression and psychosis. She was left paralyzed from a jump from a second-story window the night the children were killed.

Her trial began July 20 with jury selection. The prosecution and defense delivered their opening statements on July 27, before witness testimony began. Patrick Clancy was the first witness called to the stand. He detailed his now-ex-wife’s mental health issues leading up to Jan. 24, 2023, his last moments with his children that evening, and his experience finding them unresponsive in their basement.

So far, jurors have also heard testimony from a CVS general manager, a Three V restaurant hostess, the family’s nanny, teachers, friends, and several police officers, first responders, toxicologists, and medical professionals. They also viewed the family’s former home on 47 Summer St. in Duxbury.

Clancy addressed the judge in court for the first time last week, agreeing to stipulate to some of the facts in evidence.

Who is Lindsay Clancy?

Clancy, the defendant, was born Aug. 11, 1990, to parents Paula and Michael Musgrove. She grew up in Wallingford, Connecticut, and earned her bachelor’s degree from Quinnipiac University. She attended nursing school at MGH Institute of Health Professionals, according to the state’s healthcare license verification site.

She worked as a labor and delivery nurse at Massachusetts General Hospital for several years. She married Patrick Clancy in December 2016, and the couple settled in Duxbury, according to a wrongful death lawsuit filed this year by the children’s father.
