At only three months old, Mohammad Al-Khatib should have known nothing but soft blankets, warm arms, and the quiet safety of his mother’s heartbeat.
Instead, tragedy found him far too soon.
During a devastating incident, his mother lost her life while she was breastfeeding him. In that same moment, little Mohammad suffered severe, life-changing injuries. Doctors fought to save the tiny infant, and somehow, against the odds, they did. But the cost was heavy.
His left leg had to be amputated below the knee. He suffered serious burns across his small body, and a major injury to his left hand continues to worry the medical team as they carefully decide what treatment he will need next.
At an age when most babies are just beginning to discover the world through soft touches and gentle voices, Mohammad is already facing a long and difficult road. A road that no child should ever have to walk.
He is still so small. Still so new to this life.
