National Prayer for Xavier Taylor

National Prayer for Xavier Taylor

At 5 p.m. Eastern today, people across the country are expected to pause and pray for 12-year-old Xavier Taylor.

Xavier has remained unresponsive since May 26, when he was struck in the neck by a baseball during warmups before a championship game in New Jersey.

He suffered cardiac arrest and has remained on a ventilator while his family waits for signs of recovery.

According to reporting from WPVI, Xavier has recently been transferred from the hospital to a short-term care facility.

His father, Gregory Taylor, says the family has noticed encouraging changes in his condition.

Gregory told WPVI that Xavier is regulating his own body temperature and has gained weight.

The family says they no longer see the frail child they saw during the earliest weeks of his medical crisis.

But Xavier remains unresponsive, and his loved ones continue to hope for the moment he opens his eyes.

A Night of Prayer & Praise is scheduled for 5 p.m. Eastern at Karcher Field in Maple Shade, New Jersey.

People who cannot attend are being encouraged to join from wherever they are.

Families, churches and prayer groups can participate at the same time from their homes and communities.

Xavier’s story has already reached far beyond his hometown.

Teams have worn his No. 6, communities have gathered in his honor, and supporters across the country have continued to pray for his recovery.

His father says he often imagines what Xavier might say when he finally wakes up.

The question he expects to hear is simple: “What did I miss?”

For now, Xavier’s family continues to wait, hope and stand beside him.

Tonight’s gathering is another reminder of how many people are keeping this young boy in their thoughts.

For everyone joining the prayer, the message is simple: keep hoping for Xavier, his recovery and strength for his family.
