‘Hell on Wheels’ Teen Killer Mackenzie Shirilla Confessed to Murder in Prison, Ex-Inmate Claims

In a shocking new revelation, Mackenzie Shirilla — the Ohio teenager dubbed “Hell on Wheels” after she intentionally crashed a car at high speed, killing her boyfriend and a friend — allegedly confessed behind bars that she purposefully committed the murders.
Shirilla, who was 18 at the time of the 2022 crash, has long maintained her innocence, claiming she passed out due to a medical condition called POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) before the Toyota Camry she was driving slammed into a building at over 100 mph. The crash killed her 20-year-old boyfriend, Dominic Russo, and their 18-year-old friend, Davion Flanagan.
However, a former inmate at the Ohio Reformatory for Women has come forward with a very different account. Anastasia, 30, who shared a cell block with Shirilla, told the Daily Mail that the convicted killer openly admitted to inmates that she crashed the car because “Dom had to die.”
“She said she was suicidal, but she almost looked as though she was enjoying telling the story — like she was amused by it,” Anastasia claimed.
The ex-inmate also described Shirilla’s disturbing behavior in prison, including creating a scrapbook filled only with photos of herself and a picture of a brick wall with the word “BOOM” written on it — a chilling reference to the fatal crash. According to Anastasia, Shirilla showed no photos of her victims and displayed little remorse.
Shirilla is currently serving a sentence of 15 years to life. Despite her conviction, she continues to appeal her case and appeared in a Netflix documentary claiming the crash was an accident.
Multiple former inmates have described Shirilla as enjoying her notoriety behind bars, engaging in multiple lesbian relationships, and frequently receiving new clothes, makeup, and other items from her supportive parents.
The families of Dominic Russo and Davion Flanagan have expressed deep pain over Shirilla’s continued claims of innocence, saying her lack of remorse has prolonged their suffering.
This latest revelation adds another disturbing chapter to one of Ohio’s most shocking teenage crime cases, as the victims’ loved ones continue to seek justice and closure.
