A prominent group of civil rights attorneys has stepped in to help appeal the murder conviction of Karmelo Anthony, who was found guilty of fatally stabbing fellow high school athlete Austin Metcalf.

The team includes Texas NAACP president Gary Bledsoe, veteran appellate attorney Russell Wilson, civil rights lawyer Brooke Cluse from the Ben Crump Law firm, and others. They will be working the case pro bono.

Anthony was sentenced to 35 years in prison for the killing. His supporters are now pulling out all the stops in an effort to have the conviction overturned.

The case has drawn significant attention due to the involvement of the victims’ families and the broader community response to the tragic incident between the two young men.

The legal battle is expected to continue as Anthony’s new legal team prepares the appeal.
