Esther Lyle entered the world in Florida facing extraordinary medical challenges. Born with significant brain and spinal injuries, she lived with cerebral palsy, limited movement from the waist down, and profound impairments in both hearing and vision. She required a tracheostomy (trach) for breathing support, a gastrostomy tube (G-tube) for nutrition, and around-the-clock care.

Despite these obstacles, Esther’s adoptive parents, Caleb and Hope Lyle (who lived in the McCalla, Alabama area), dedicated themselves to giving her the fullest life possible. Around 18 months of age, something unexpected happened: Esther began to hear again—a development her doctors could not fully explain. The return of her hearing became a treasured milestone for the family.

Esther developed a deep love of books and stories. With her restored hearing she listened to more than 1,000 audiobooks. She also began using adaptive technology, including an eye-gaze communication device, which opened new ways for her to interact with the world.
