Callan Gore is about to turn 8 months old, and her family says she is doing remarkably well.
But her story began in a way no parent could have imagined.
Callan was born weighing just 11 ounces.
Not 11 pounds.
Eleven ounces.
Her parents, Jared and CJ Gore, were expecting their first baby and believed they still had many weeks for her to grow.
But during pregnancy, doctors discovered serious complications. CJ was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome, a rare and potentially life-threatening pregnancy complication affecting both mother and baby.
Doctors determined that Callan needed to be delivered at just 23 weeks and 1 day.
The family was warned that because she was so extremely premature and tiny, doctors could not be certain how long she would survive.
Callan weighed only 11 ounces when she entered the NICU at Baptist Health Brookwood Hospital.
And then this tiny baby started fighting.
She made it through the first hours.
Then the first days.
Then the weeks.
Today, she weighs around 9 pounds, 5 ounces—roughly 14 times her birth weight.
Her dad recently shared:
“Though Callan struggles to eat and put on weight, her overall health is great. We’ve just been soaking in all the moments we’ve had with her and are so thankful for her and to God for keeping her safe and healthy.”
After everything this little girl has overcome, her family is simply grateful for every ordinary moment.
