The Original Cast Is Back: Brendan Fraser, Rachel Weisz and Arnold Vosloo Reunite for The Mummy 4

More than two decades after The Mummy Returns, the beloved adventure is rising once again. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz are officially returning as Rick and Evelyn O’Connell, while Arnold Vosloo is set to reprise his iconic role as the high priest Imhotep. The long-awaited fourth film in the classic franchise is currently scheduled to hit theaters on May 19, 2028.

Universal Pictures is treating the project as a true legacy sequel. Directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (the Radio Silence duo behind Ready or Not and the recent Scream films) will helm the movie from a screenplay by David Coggeshall. The story is expected to pick up from the first two films and disregard the events of 2008’s The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor, allowing Weisz’s Evelyn to return after her absence from the third installment.

Fraser, now 57, has already begun preparing for the physically demanding role. In recent interviews he confirmed he is “doing [his] best” to get back into action-hero shape, a process fans have closely followed since the announcement. Alongside Fraser and Weisz, John Hannah is also confirmed to return as the charmingly unreliable Jonathan Carnahan. Reports indicate additional original cast members, including Oded Fehr (Ardeth Bay) and Kevin J. O’Connor, are joining the reunion, with Vosloo’s return as Imhotep reportedly in the final stages of negotiation.

The original Mummy films blended swashbuckling adventure, supernatural horror, and sharp humor in a way that defined a generation of blockbusters. Fraser’s charismatic Rick O’Connell and Weisz’s brilliant, bookish Evelyn became instant icons, while Vosloo’s commanding performance as the resurrected Imhotep delivered both menace and tragic grandeur. Bringing that core trio back together feels like the fulfillment of a long-held fan wish.

Production is expected to begin soon, with locations likely including the kind of sweeping desert and temple settings that made the earlier films so memorable. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, the creative team has described the script as possessing “all of the heart and the character that you could hope for.”

After years of reboots, rumors, and false starts, The Mummy 4 finally promises what audiences have been asking for: the original cast, the original spirit, and another chance to watch Rick and Evelyn battle ancient curses side by side. The adventure continues — and this time, the band is getting back together.
