Search for Missing 3-Year-Old Noah Woods Ends in Tragedy

The search for three-year-old Noah Woods, who disappeared from a playground in Brantham, Suffolk, has ended in tragedy.

Suffolk Constabulary confirmed that a child’s body recovered from Decoy Pond on September 16 was formally identified as Noah the following day. His family has been informed.

Police said the death is not currently being treated as suspicious, although enquiries remain ongoing. A report will be prepared for the coroner, who will determine the formal circumstances and cause of death.

Noah disappeared on the afternoon of September 15, after becoming separated from a relative at the Merriam Close playground. CCTV captured his last confirmed sighting at approximately 2:37 p.m., when he was seen in the park before running down an alleyway toward a nearby housing estate and the area around Decoy Pond.

The CCTV footage became an important part of the investigation, helping officers establish Noah’s last known movements.

Police had previously said Noah was non-verbal and partially deaf and was undergoing an autism assessment. Officers warned that he might not respond when his name was called, information that was particularly important during the search.

A major multi-agency operation was launched across Brantham and the surrounding area. Specialist police teams, search dogs, helicopters, HM Coastguard, fire and rescue crews, search-and-rescue volunteers and other emergency personnel took part.

Police also said approximately 1,300 members of the public joined efforts to search for the missing child.

Despite the extensive operation, Metropolitan Police dive-team officers recovered a child’s body from Decoy Pond on Wednesday afternoon. At that stage, formal identification had not yet been completed.

On September 17, Suffolk Constabulary confirmed that the child was Noah.

The news brought a devastating end to a search that had united emergency services and members of the local community. From the moment Noah was reported missing, residents and volunteers joined professional search teams in an effort to find him.

Police have emphasized that there is currently no indication of criminality or suspicious circumstances. Investigators will continue working to establish what happened during Noah’s final moments before the case is reported to the coroner.

Suffolk Constabulary has asked the public to respect Noah’s family’s privacy as they grieve the loss of their young son.
