Chris Brown Faces $90 Million Lawsuit After Allegedly Not Calling 911 Himself Following Dog Attack on Housekeeper

LOS ANGELES — Singer Chris Brown is embroiled in a high-stakes $90 million lawsuit after his housekeeper, Maria Avila, was severely mauled by one of his large security dogs.
According to court testimony, Brown was preparing to take a shower when he heard growling and discovered Avila face-down in the driveway, bleeding heavily after being attacked by his roughly 200-pound Caucasian Shepherd named Hades. Brown secured the dog, checked on Avila, and called his business manager to request emergency services rather than dialing 911 himself.
Brown testified that he feared a 911 recording could leak to the media and be twisted due to his celebrity status. He also reportedly left the property before paramedics arrived on the advice of his team to avoid turning the situation into a media “circus,” though he claims he stayed with Avila until help arrived.
Avila suffered severe facial injuries, requiring stitches, and has reported ongoing complications including nerve damage and partial blindness. She filed the $90 million lawsuit in 2021 against Brown and his team.
The case recently went to trial in June 2026 but ended in a mistrial after a juror was caught researching the case online. It is now headed for a retrial.
The incident has sparked heated public debate, with many questioning whether Brown’s decision not to call 911 himself was negligent or a reasonable attempt to protect himself from media scrutiny in a high-pressure situation.
Brown’s legal team maintains he acted appropriately by ensuring help was called quickly. Avila’s attorneys argue that his actions delayed critical medical response.
The retrial is expected to draw significant attention as it delves deeper into the circumstances of the attack and Brown’s response. The case continues to highlight issues of celebrity liability, pet safety, and emergency response protocols.
Both sides await the next phase of legal proceedings as the $90 million claim remains unresolved.
