High School Counselor Julie Tichon Sentenced for Sexually Abusing 16-Year-Old Student

Los Angeles — A former high school counselor was sentenced Friday after pleading no contest to two felony charges for sexually abusing a 16-year-old boy under her care.

Julie Tichon faced justice in a Los Angeles courtroom for what prosecutors described as a predatory relationship with the minor student. She pleaded no contest to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor more than three years younger and oral copulation with a person under 18.

Moments before learning her fate, the victim’s sister addressed the court, calling Tichon “a predator” and “a monster.”

The emotional statement highlighted the profound betrayal of trust by an educator who was supposed to guide and protect students. The abuse reportedly occurred while Tichon worked as a counselor at a Southern California high school.

Authorities have not released the name of the victim to protect his privacy. The case came to light after the victim and his family reported the abuse, triggering an investigation that led to Tichon’s arrest and eventual plea.

Tichon’s sentencing marks the end of a disturbing case that has shaken the local education community and raised concerns about safeguards for students interacting with school staff. The judge’s full sentence was handed down following the victim impact statements.

Cases involving educators abusing their positions of authority continue to draw intense public scrutiny, with many calling for stricter oversight and background checks in schools.

Tichon remains in custody pending transfer to state prison.
