A backyard summer gathering turned into tragedy over the weekend when 6-year-old Jordan Aure Buitron was fatally electrocuted near an inflatable water slide at his family’s home in rural Alamo, Texas, north of Donna.

According to the Hidalgo County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:36 p.m. on Saturday, July 25, 2026, to a call about an unresponsive child on the 5900 block of Viesha Avenue (also described as near Eldora Road). A family member had already rushed the boy to a local hospital. Despite lifesaving efforts by medical staff, Jordan was pronounced dead.

Investigators determined that metal stakes used to secure the inflatable water slide had punctured an underground electrical wire. The damaged line energized the surrounding ground. Jordan came into contact with the live ground and was electrocuted.

A preliminary autopsy confirmed the cause of death as electrocution. The Hidalgo County Medical Examiner’s Office has ruled the death accidental.

Jordan Aure Buitron was born on February 4, 2020, in Edinburg. Family members remembered him as a joyful little boy who loved the beach, motorcycles, and making people smile. His laughter and gentle spirit brought happiness to those who knew him. He is survived by his parents, four siblings, grandparents, and many other loved ones.

Hidalgo County Sheriff Eddie Guerra issued a statement of condolence: “Our thoughts and prayers are with Jordan’s family as they grieve this unimaginable loss. We ask the community to keep them in their thoughts and prayers.”

Local experts in the party-rental industry have since emphasized the importance of calling 811 before driving any stakes into the ground to locate buried utilities, and of closely supervising children around inflatables.
