At 33 weeks pregnant, one ultrasound scan changed everything for Fiona. Doctors looked at the screen and gently delivered the words no parent is ever prepared to hear: her baby boy would be born without both eyes.

When Archie arrived, he was diagnosed with SOX2 anophthalmia syndrome, an extremely rare genetic condition that left him completely blind. As if that wasn’t enough, he later faced hearing loss, brain abnormalities, feeding difficulties, and severe motor delays. His early years became a cycle of hospital stays, emergency treatments, and countless therapy sessions.

Despite the overwhelming medical challenges, Archie has grown into a bright, smiling little boy who continues to defy expectations. Supported by his devoted parents and his older sister, he has made steady progress through intensive therapies, specialised equipment, and the unwavering love of his family.

Every day is a fight — but it is also filled with joy. From learning to take supported steps in his walker to sharing happy moments in the pool with his sister, Archie shows that a life without sight can still be full of light, connection, and determination.

His story is a powerful reminder that even the rarest diagnoses cannot define a child’s spirit — or the strength of the family that stands beside him.
