Over the following 11 months, Avira remained in the hospital as her medical team managed a series of complex health challenges. During that time, complications from blood clots led to surgeries that resulted in the loss of several fingers and toes.
While waiting for a donor heart, Avira also experienced serious heart rhythm complications that required emergency medical treatment.
On **April 23, 2026**, after nearly a year of waiting, Avira received a life-saving heart transplant.
