San Francisco Landlord & Retired Dentist Arrested in Tenant’s Masked Shooting Murder

Philippe Henri Chagniot, a 68-year-old retired dentist, was arrested on May 27–28, 2026, and charged with murder in the killing of his tenant, Eric Bigone, 58.

What Happened:

  • On May 17, 2026, at around 5:21 a.m., Bigone was shot in the Outer Sunset neighborhood (2500 block of 46th Avenue) as he was leaving for work.
  • Surveillance footage showed a masked suspect on a bicycle carrying a long gun (possibly a rifle or shotgun) approaching and shooting the victim in an apparent ambush.
  • Eric Bigone was a laborer who rented a home owned by one of Chagniot’s relatives. Chagniot acted as the landlord.

Key Details:

  • Chagniot was booked into San Francisco County Jail on suspicion of murder.
  • Police executed a search warrant at his residence and seized evidence.
  • The motive has not been publicly confirmed, but sources indicate there had been past issues between the landlord and tenant.

The case gained attention due to the bizarre circumstances — a masked shooter on a bike in a quiet residential area, later revealed to be the victim’s own landlord, a retired dentist.

This remains an active investigation. Chagniot is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
